History
Touché is a 1930 Chris Craft Model 102 with hull #1984. She is a Triple Cockpit Runabout with a swim step making her 24’ overall.
Touché was delivered new from the Algonac Michigan factory to Green River Boat works, Green River Wisconsin on April 29, 1930. The front and rear windshields are factory originals. The aft windshield was an option and not many were produced with this configuration.
The engine is a Chris Craft ‘M’ Hercules block that Chris Craft accessorized. This engine replaced the original Chrysler Crown sometime in the 1940’s because the Chrysler was considered inferior.
Touché came back to the US in 2002 from Victoria BC, Canada. The current owner completed the restoration and showed the boat at many shows over the years, plus used it to go joyriding on local lakes. To the best of our knowledge all parts are original except the engine upgrade, Bennett trim tabs, depth finder with speed indicator, swim step, blower system and enclosed cooling on the Hercules engine.
The hull has been modified to incorporate double keelsons for increased hull strength and longitudinal stability. The 5200 no soak bottom was installed in the 1990’s. The exhaust system has been modified to a dual tailpipe system to include down turned exterior tail pipes, keeping her quiet at low RPM’s.
The engine and transmission were removed and overhauled during the 2002 restoration and a high-performance camshaft and intake manifold were added. Redline is still 3000 RPM, but a much stronger running engine. The 2002 hull restoration was done at a local shop taking 14 months to complete.
The upholstery is done in Cerulean Blue vinyl which is the factory color for 1930. There is also a full storage/mooring cover in great shape.
Touché has been stored in a humidity and temperature-controlled boat barn.
The original “Owner’s Manual” and binders containing information on various stages of the initial restoration will be passed on to the new owner, along with many period brochures, periodicals, stories, photos, newspaper articles and pictures featuring Touché at shows.
