Accommodations and Layout
The 385 incorporates Catalina’s custom watertight StrikeZone, a collision bulkhead aft of the anchor locker. The keel of made of lead, as opposed to iron, for additional safety and reduced maintenance.
The mast support system features Catalina’s unique SecureSocket chain plates for superior load resolution from the mast to the hull structural system. Long inboard genoa tracks can accommodate headsails from a powerful 155% genoa to a storm jib, allowing the sail plan to be balanced in all conditions. The foredeck features a removable strut for an asymmetric spinnaker. The traveler is long and provides precise mainsheet control.
Below deck, the design has a comfortable and warm feel. The main cabin offers generous seating, a custom quad leaf folding table, and a port side dinette which converts into a single berth. Privacy screens are fitted over fixed ports in the main cabin. Full length stainless steel handrails are found on both the port and starboard sides. Storage is found through the saloon and includes a large forward hanging locker.
The navigation desk has a recessed laptop compartment with dedicated power ports. The custom electrical panel is neatly secreted behind a tinted acrylic door, allowing for continual monitoring of power use.
The galley is optimized for convenience at sea or at port and it features plenty of usable workspace and handholds. An opaque splashboard to separate the galley, but not the chef, from the main saloon area. A propane stove, stainless steel gimbaled oven and large refrigerator/freezer are built into functional units and a microwave oven is fitted as standard. Storage in the galley includes large cabinets and drawers that offer plenty of space for provisions and cookware.
The owner’s cabin is forward and has a custom, articulating innerspring mattress. An electric lifter is available for comfortable reading or watching TV. The aft guest cabin includes a large double berth and roomy storage lockers.
A spa style head with a large shower complements the roomy interior. An electric macerating head comes as standard and the sink is an elegant basin with single lever faucet.
Engine access is excellent and found below the companionway steps. The traditional shaft drive is simple to inspect and maintain.
Like all Catalinas above 30 feet in length, the 385 is robustly build to CE category A standards, is NMMA Yacht Certified and follows all applicable American boat and Yacht Council Standards, assuring owners of a quality, safe and durable yacht.
