About

The first superyacht. A vessel with a story, like no other. The concept of converting the Onassis yacht into a Passenger Vessel for up to 34 guests was realized in 2001, with a total rebuild. The extent of the rebuild in 2000 - 2001 was enormous, with all systems new: new engines, new generators, new electrical systems, new pipework... it was cleverly done to restore the magic of the Onassis era, while everything was actually renewed. Even the steel hull and much of the aluminum superstructure was renewed. Now operating as a very successful charter yacht, with bookings that can be transferred to the new owner.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Never before offered for sale like this.  It is the first time anybody can buy the CHRISTINA O as a fully functioning charter business, with the yacht in excellent condition.

The charter reputation is excellent, with many repeat clients coming back again and again.

100% success rate on charter – every client is delighted.

The story of this yacht is extraordinary – the more you look, the more you find, and it encourages a fascination with modern history.  It was first a war ship built in Canada during WWII, and the brave Canadian crew saved many lives as escorts for shipping convoys in terrible circumstances.  Then we learn about Onassis – what a story!  His life involved building a shipping business that put Greece back on the map as the great shipping nation that had been once before.  His charisma and pioneering spirit helped build the diverse business empire that extended to owning a large part of SBM in Monaco, at a time of rapid development for the Principality.  His most prized asset was the CHRISTINA, and it enabled him to achieve even greater things in his career and extravagant personal life.  Entering the story comes Sir Winston Churchill who saved the free world, primarily with the power of words. How fascinating it is to learn about Churchill inspired by his friendship with Onassis as his most frequent and cherished guest on no less than 8 or 9 extended voyages on the CHRISTINA, criss crossing the Mediterranean and crossing the Atlantic to explore the Caribbean, and all the way north to New York.

Onassis is of course famous for the women in his life, with his first marriage to Tina Livanos, then his extended affair with Maria Callas, and his final marriage to Jackie Bouvier Kennedy, the widow of JFK… who incidentally met Sir Winston Churchill for the first and second times on board the CHRISTINA in the port of Monaco.

Honestly the stories that CHRISTINA O encapsulates are ‘a trip’.

The yacht’s rebirth in 2001 saw her become probably the first superyacht to be able to charter with more than 12 guests, thanks to her rebuild being to Passenger Vessel rules, and her success was guaranteed as even today this market has minimal competition.  She has been used for TV and movie production, weddings, anniversaries and many other multi-generational gatherings of friends and family.  She sleeps 34 guests, with 40 crew, and can easily host events for 120 people at anchor.  In fact she could carry up to 157 passengers under certain conditions.

Frequently the most successful charter yacht in the world on an annual bookings basis, she has a rate of €740,000 per week plus VAT and expenses, in high season, and €700,000 in low season.

Thanks to substantial re-investment year after year, she has been constantly improved and a potential buyer will not fail to be impressed when visiting the yacht.

2001 RE-BUIILD

It is important to understand the extent of the re-build that was finished in 2001.

Almost nothing was not renewed during that re-build.

The Onassis era treasures were carefully removed and preserved, to be re-installed again in compliance with the Passenger Vessel regulations.

Everything was removed, including the steel hull plates, and the engines which were previously triple-expansion steam engines (powerful and advanced in their day, to give the war ship speed to hunt enemy submarines).

Every pipe, cable, pump, valve, and item of equipment was new.  Great care was taken over the choice of new parts and materials, for the yacht to have excellent longevity.  The naval architect and project manager is still acting as technical manager today, and he will attest to the reasons why each individual part was chosen.  CuNi pipes.  Stainless Steel pumps.  Even the Man Alfa engines with their low RPM were selected for the lower wear on parts and therefore longer service life.

The replacement of the steam engines meant that a new dining room could be created.  the layout of CHRISTINA O became extremely functional for up to 34 guests.

Also new in 2001 were the two beautiful wooden Hacker Craft tenders, used in conjunction with two RIB sports tenders.  The Hacker Craft give the yacht ultimate style for guests arriving and departing.

RECENT REFIT

For the last 8 years or so the yacht CHRISTINA O has undergone fairly major refits every year, as the owners bring the yacht to the highest level expected by clients today.

The superstructure was taken back to metal and given the high gloss yacht paint finish.

The teak decks have recently been replaced with new.

The Air Conditioning system has been replaced with an even more powerful and effective system, with new A/C plant, new ducts, and new controllers.

The yacht was given a hydraulic swim platform on port side, so instead of having to step directly from the tender to the steps, there is now a fantastic platform with the proper fender system and tie-off points.

The yacht was given a whole new deck to use for dining, with the conversion of the Compass Deck up at the top, to a very functional space with its recently added teak decks, shade structure, and tables.

The outdoor bar was also upgraded with new integrated LED lighting, and fresh new look.

This to name just a few of the many jobs that have been done.
