VERISSIMO is a custom–built Alden 63 designed by the offices of John G. Alden Naval Architects of Boston and built by a joint venture with Eric Goetz Custom Boats of Bristol, Rhode Island, producing the composite hull, deck and structure. Goetz built a light, strong hull and deck (seamless vacuum bagged biaxial E glass in epoxy resin over Baltec Contourkore). The interior structural bulkheads are constructed with Nomex panels for weight savings. The boat was then shipped to Derecktor Shipyards of Mamaroneck, New York who, with their decades of experience, fitted her out with systems, machinery and joinery. She was launched in 1998.
VERISSIMO has the appearance of a traditional yacht with her beautiful lines and fine exterior detailing, yet she also has very good sailing characteristics thanks to her powerful sail plan, moderate draft keel, slippery hull form and deep spade rudder. Her race record has proven that with several top finishes in offshore races under ORR, local PHRF races and classic yacht “Spirit of Tradition” events under the CYOA rule (a complete race history is available upon request). She is truly a joy to sail – surprisingly fast in light winds and stable, sea–kindly in higher wind ranges and rough conditions. Sail trim changes are easily made thanks to modern wireless and helm control systems only seen on much larger yachts – see pictures herein and brief video that demonstrate this very nice feature.
VERISSIMO is also a very comfortable cruising yacht with a beautifully appointed interior, three spacious cabins and an extensive list of equipment to support extended time aboard. A truly rare yacht offered at a fraction of the $6.5 million replacement cost.
